Am I Missing Something? Edition Infinity

Since I've seen it more than enough times, can someone tell me why Denis Leary, the so-called comedian, actor and recording artist, was hired to do a Ford truck commercial?
It seems that the less talent Leary has or displays, the more that he is hired/used and gets opportunities. And what it is with Ford hiring annoying people to advertise their trucks? I mean, from Toby Keith to Denis Leary?
